Development of the film "It Cannot Happen to Me II" and its use in the prevention activities against trafficking in human beings

From July to December 2011 IOM is realizing the project to streamline and improve systematic prevention of human trafficking among the target groups at risk in Slovakia, through the creation of missing prevention material- a video-film and providing the pilot training for professionals working with the final beneficiaries.

The overall objective of the project is to streamline and contribute to the improvement of systematic prevention of human trafficking among the target groups at risk in Slovakia, through the creation of missing prevention tools as well as carrying out training on the use of the film in the field of preventing human trafficking.

The main objective of the first phase of the project is to create a video-film called "It Cannot Happen to Me II" which will complement and expand a similar film created by IOM and the public Slovak TV (STV) in 2003, with the aim to highlight current topics related to new forms of trafficking in human beings. In particular, the second film will deal with the topic of trafficking in human beings mainly for the purposes of forced labour, forced begging and benefit exploitation (the previous film has concentrated only on trafficking in human beings for sexual exploitation). In this manner, men who from the IOM Bratislava direct experience always more often fall victims to human trafficking will be addressed in this type of preventive activity for the first time. The goal of the prevention film is also to look at aspects of Roma migration in search for work. In this respect, a link between accepting work in underground economy and the possibility of falling victim to human trafficking will be explored.

The objective of the second phase of the project is to develop a specific methodology for the use of the film in a broad range of long-term preventive activities. The aim of the training on using the film on human trafficking is to train 20 practitioners working in the field of prevention. For these purposes a specific methodology of prevention will be developed. The film will provide efficient means to multiply the project outcomes even beyond the framework of the present project.
