In June 2023, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Slovakia, and its Migration Information Centre (MIC) in Slovakia have organised a series of community events that aimed to celebrate diversity, promote cultural exchange and provide valuable support to community members.

Let’s delve into the highlights of these events and the significant impact they have had on bringing people together.

In an effort to celebrate the rich culinary traditions of Ukraine, the ”Ukrainian Cuisine” event provided an opportunity for 33 members of the Ukrainian community to highlight their culinary skills.

Collaborating with the NGOs Mareena and the League for Mental Health, the IOM MIC Trencin organised an engaging community event on the theme of a “Day of the Forest.” Starting from Trencin’s bus station, 28 adults and 23 children from the Ukrainian and Slovak communities embarked on a journey to Horne Srnie, where they enjoyed educational activities led by a forester.

The "Ukrainian Evening" in Martin was a Great Place to Form New Friendships

Specialities of Ukrainian cuisine prepared by the recipients of year-long support were served to 30+ visitors of the event, and the Slovak guests were introduced to the food traditions of their neighbours. This event was a wonderful place to form new friendships and develop cooperation in the activities of the IOM, local civic associations and Ukrainians living in the Turiec region. The attendees were delighted to socialise, gain information about the IOM’s support and explore various aspects of their temporary stay in Slovakia.
